Evaluation of my film.

I set out to try and show a studio set by making a short music video. I tried to set the scene of a studio set with the flashing lights and photographer. I didn't really have any influences to do this film but obviously my unit is based upon studio lighting so that was my main theme. As i've chosen a studio setting I couldn't really go wrong with linking it to my topic.
For the filming I ended up only using a straight on long shot and a high angle long shot but I made the film interesting by putting it in time with the music and making my subject (Ellie) do different things like spins elegant moves and swaying the hair. I was going to try lots of different angles and chop and change between them throughout the film but the restrictive area didn't permit me to do any low angles otherwise I would have been showing the tape I used to hold the backdrop to the wall, also I couldn't do any side on shots without showing the rest of the room, so i did what I could.
When it came to editing to film it didn't take too long as the filming went well and didn't need much editing other than cutting down to fit with the music. Also I used fade-ins and outs to change scene, on two of the changes I used an overlay of a freeze frames of the last scene, which is one of my favourite parts of the film. For all the clips I made them black and white and put the brightness up because when I turned it into black and white it looked very dull.
If I had more time I would have done more on the editing side, by putting in flashes of colour instead of leaving it all black and white, although the black and white does give it a certain elegant fell to it.

Filming

I had to rig up a large enough studio back drop to allow me sufficient filming space. So I taped two large rolls of canvas together to give me a large enough working space. I then taped it to the wall and floor of my parents business. I rigged up two studio lights one aimed on the backdrop to try and dull the shadows on the backdrop, the other one facing onto Ellie, this one was operating by flash when I took a picture which I will use when the faster beat is playing in the music. I am still going to try and use a few different angles but with a restricted area to use I think I will find it hard.

Treatment 2

Following my first treatment I have adapted my idea, i'm keeping the studio set theme and make it more standard but put it to an upbeat song. I will take standard full body shots with me as the photographer taking pictures on the faster parts making the flash to give the motion a beat. I have abolished the idea of stills and motion and keeping it to just motion but speeding up the film or slowing it down to fit in with the music. There will be no narration just the music. I will be using my parents business place to rig up a studio setting using my own studio lighting equipment.

I had the idea of the song music club by Chase & Status a drum and base song but it has a few sections in it which slow right down and has a voice over which I thought would be perfect for a few slow motion shots.

Lighting Positioning

On the right is showing the lighting source from the left which gives the half eaten side of the apple a dark mouldy looking effect while keeping the clean uneaten part of the apple light and shiny.
To the left has the lighting coming from the right, which is lightening the eaten part of the apple giving it not so much of a mouldy effect. It now just looks half eaten not rotting.
To the right this apple has been lit from both sides giving it two shadows and an even spread of light on the whole apple which doesn't highlight any areas of the apple.
These pictures show how the placing of the lighting can affect the way in which the picture is perceived.

Deviance

After taking the beauty pictures, I found I seemed to be heading towards more abstract photographs with strange angles, which I really liked. So I took this idea of unusal pictures and developed on it. Instead of just taking pcitures from strange angles and of strange features I also used for some photographs a wide angles lense to distort the face.

The photograph where the guy with black hair and has no ear is my version of one of Pierre Radisic's picture which is shown below.
